Chan Ba Ecological District (浐灞生态区)
CHAN BA ECOLOGICAL DISTRICT (浐灞生态区)- Chan3 Ba4 Sheng1 Tai4 Qu1)- this is part of a huge water city development on the banks of the river Ba, in the East of Xi’an. It is certainly a work in progress but it does already offer a wetland retreat from the busy down town area of central Xi’an. It was noted in China Grooves that it is a particularly good spot for fishing and jogging, that is about right but it is still not bad for a wander. It is interesting not least for the fact that it is such a massive work still in the process of development. This is a project that won’t be completed until it is linked to the rest of the city by subway- some time off yet. It is also quite interesting to ride the bus out there, as it takes you around a bit of the northern suburbs, an area not often visited and which feels a little different to the South and West.
You can take the 600 bus from anywhere on Chang’an Road (Lu), South or North Street (Nan or Bei Da Jie) to the first stop outside the North Gate, which is named Bei3 Guan1. From their, just walk around the corner to the right and take the 262 straight to the river- even on a saturday the 262 was quiet, so it’s not a bad journey.
